Fibromyalgia (FM or FMS)
Around 2% of people have fibromyalgia which is characterized by chronic widespread pain and allodynia (a heightened and painful response to skin contact or touch, even light pressure can be agonizing for many sufferers). Pharmacologic treatment usually consists of tricyclic antidepressants combined with NSAIDs. Although there are no specific clinical studies of the use of cannabinoid receptor agonists for symptomatic relief of this disease, there is data that supports their therapeutic potential thanks to their anti-inflammatory and sedative properties.
Fibromyalgia: Effect on Symptoms Relief and Health-Related Quality of Life
“We observe significant improvement of symptoms of FM in patients using cannabis in this study although there was a variability of patterns. This information, together with evidence of clinical trials and emerging knowledge of the endocannabinoid system and the role of the stress system in the pathophysiology of FM suggest a new approach to the suffering of these patients. The present results together with previous evidence seem to confirm the beneficial effects of cannabinoids on FM symptoms”

THC Treatment in Chronic Central Neuropathic Pain and Fibromyalgia
“Even though it appears premature to classify fibromyalgia as a neuropathic pain syndrome, these patients suffer chronic pain and often have an impaired quality of life due to depression, sleep deprivation, or other functional somatic syndromes. Therefore, these patients may profit from a co-analgesic and psychopharmacologic delta 9- THC therapy”
“Those patients who did respond to THC therapy, the vast majority reported a significant reduction of pain intensity, a relevant improvement of mood and quality of life, and a lowering of concomitant opioid medication”
“In our patient sample, THC treatment led to a significant reduction in pain intensity. Noteworthy, this effect could be observed when a mean daily dose of 7.5 mg THC was administered. This dosage shows high acceptance and efficacy”
